SciCoh Grade 8 Awards

SciCoh Football & Cheer hosts their annual 8th Grade Banquet at the end of every season. It is a fun and night where all players and their families gather for one last time to celebrate their SciCoh Sharks journey together before they head into high school sports the following year. Every year, two very special awards are given to a football player and a cheerleader, the James McInnis Sportsmanship Award and the Andrea Gaziano Cheer Award.

James McInnis Sportsmanship Award

James McInnis founded Scituate Pop Warner Football in the early 1970’s (which ended up becoming SciCoh in 1992). Since 1983, this has been awarded to one kid every year that has been a silent leader, at the forefront of being a great teammate, continuously works hard, exhibits the best of sportsmanship all-around, and gets good grades at school. McInnis’ daughter, Lisa Aftosmes, was there to talk about her dad and the award.

In the years that followed, the Gaziano family remained very active in the SciCoh program - coaching, playing football, and cheering. Andrea’s spirit, commitment, courage, and strength are traits found in every recipient of this award in Andrea Gaziano’s name since 2006.

OCYFL Ken Kelly MVP Award

This award was established in 2022 in memory of beloved SciCoh Sharks Football Coach Ken Kelly. Ken joined the SciCoh Board of Directors in 2009, shortly after moving to Scituate, and before his own son, George was even old enough to play in the program. Ken then started coaching with SciCoh in 2014 and remained involved even after his son graduated from the program and went off to High School.

The OCYFL Ken Kelly MVP Award is presented at the annual OCYFL Grade 8 Ken Kelly All-Star Game, to one player on the “North Team” and one player on the “South Team”.
